Mail & Guardian excerpt
It has now been 10 years since the Marikana massacre – the worst bloodshed committed by the state since apartheid ended. The first M&G Productions documentary, titled Marikana: South Africa’s Dark Heart, reflects on the anguish of a nation whose fabric was irrevocably altered on that fateful day on the koppie.
Editor-in-chief Ron Derby was joined by Advocate Dumisa Ntsebeza, Nomzamo Zondo, Sifiso Skenjana and Tessa Dooms at the film’s premiere for an enlightening panel discussion. They discuss the lead up to the massacre, the documentary and what steps must be taken if we hope to heal from our collective trauma.
