Democracy Builder | Waterwax ward 10 – 10 Jan 2026

Rivonia Circle brought its Democracy Builder programme to the Waterwax community in Gauteng’s Ward 10 an informal settlement built through the determination and organisation of its own residents, who remain active participants in South Africa’s electoral processes. On the day of the workshop we joined by students from the Middlebury Institue of International Studies.

The workshop sparked meaningful commitments from community members, who left with a renewed resolve to hold their ward councillor accountable and to take ownership of their civic future. Beyond accountability, the community united around a shared vision: the establishment of a community internet café a project that speaks to their ambition to connect, grow, and thrive. The initiative is currently in its planning phase.
